First introduced in 1957, this was Maserati's first production car, and was very well received. Touring built the beautiful bodies out of aluminum. Early 3500's were fitted with carburetors, a four speed transmission, drum brakes, and single vent windows. Later examples, like this one, were upgraded with a 5 speed transmission, Lucas fuel injection, front disc brakes, double vent windows, and additional chrome trim. They are fantastic road cars. The in-line six cylinder motor makes good power, and they are fun to drive. This example, while in need of a complete restoration, does run. It retains it's original fuel injection, which indicates the car was maintained mechanically. While the floors are rusty, the body is aluminum, so rust there isn't an issue. The car appears to be mostly complete. The market on these cars has been rising, with excellent examples recently bringing over $100,000. Also, a 3500 GT similar in condition to this one sold a year ago at the RM Monterey Auction for about $37,000. Therefore, I believe this car is a good buy at only $29,500.
