| At the motor show in Geneva in 1966, Alfa Romeo introduced its first Spider, the Spider 1600. Before long, the name of the car had been baptised “Duetto”. A year later Alfa Romeo presented the first update – more horsepower – in Brussels: the Spider 1750 Veloce. The car we now have for sale was produced in 1969. After two years, the car passed into the hands of a new – female – owner. This lady had the car in her possession until 2003. In the 1990s, the car got restored by her son, Chris Mayring, the well-known Porsche restorer. Judging from the invoices that have been preserved and come with the car, the restoration was started in 1995 and completed in 1997. At that moment, the milage was 78,082 miles. The restoration was carried out to perfection and, judging from the large number of invoices, no part was missed. Actually, the car is really still as new. In 2003, by which time the mileometer read 82,357 miles, an American pilot, who was also a collector, bought the car. Treating his car with the utmost care, he has kept it in top condition over the last 13 years. We would go so far as to say that more beautiful examples or better drivers will be extremely hard to find.
