Known History

The chassis number of this car, *127619* corresponds to a Porsche 356C Reutter Coupe built late in production on December 12, 1963. (Model year 1964.) The chassis range for this production run ran from 126001 to 128104 indicating that this was sequentially number 1,618 out of 2,103 similar 356C coupes built. This production run however also had a very small limited series of examples fitted with Porsche's last variation of their famous four-cam engine.

The riveted chassis plate attached under the front bonnet identifies the car as a "356C2000GS" or what is more commonly referred to simply as a “Carrera 2.” There were just 369 examples of this ultra rare model and this is one of the very last examples built. Most likely this was sequentially the 2nd of the final batch of 49 examples completed in the Winter of 1963/1964.

This particular example was completed new for a US client and ordered and delivered new in Culver City, California. The only requested option was a full “black” leather interior. The car was well known by Porsche enthusiasts in the Los Angeles / Beverly Hills area with its original owner well into the early 1970s when it was acquired by Leonard Harris another Los Angles resident. The car was offered and listed for sale by Harris in the September 1974 issue of Panorama Magazine. At this point the car had covered less than 40,000 miles and was described as an “excellent driver.” The car was sold to another Los Angeles resident but seldom used until 1994 when it was acquired by the KASAI collection (Mikitsugu Kasai, Japan.) Upon purchase, the car was found to be remarkably original having been repainted completely just once. It was thoroughly serviced but left largely original and un-restored. It along with many of the other Porsches in the museum were then put on display for many years and seldom used.

Today this “matching numbers” late production Carrera 2 has covered just over 46,000 miles. All services are fresh and current and the car recently covered a 1000 mile, high-altitude rally without incident.

At just 900kg / 1980lbs, and 130bhp and fitted from new with disc brakes, the performance of this car in nothing less than remarkable!

All are encouraged to take a close and detailed look at this incredible Porsche as it represents both an end to the 356 era and highlights the ultimate and final version of their original timeless design.
