Alfa Romeo 1600 Junior Zagato, year 1974. Colour white with a black interior. This magnificent Junior Zagato was sold new in Naples, Italy. This is a rare (only 402 built) and factory original 1600 Junior Zagato with ‘matching numbers’. Some interesting Italian documents are still with the car as is the complete original tool-set! This Alfa Romeo 1600 Junior Zagato is in excellent original condition! The car was never restored, only new paint in the original colour was applied a few years ago. The original interior is in a wonderful condition and the under-bonnet appearance is superb. The odometer reads 92.440 kilometres. It will be very hard, or nearly impossible to find a second example in this original and perfectly preserved condition. The car drives perfectly, the suspension was given stiffer bushes and 14-inch Cromodora light alloy wheels were fitted. The original wheels are also included. This is a very original top-specimen!
The Alfa Romeo 1600 Junior Zagato was presented during the 1972 Turin motorshow. The 1600 Junior Zagato was the successor of the 1300 Junior Zagato which saw the light of day in the year 1969.
Zagato created a variety of exclusive special models based on production Alfa's through the years. The 1600 Junior Zagato is based upon the Alfa Romeo 1600 Spider. Mechanically the car shares all components with the 1600 Spider like the DOHC four cylinder engine, the 5-speed gearbox and the disc brakes all round. The Zagato is a relatively light car, combined with the delightful sporty tuned engine it offers sportive performance.
The exterior and the interior are exclusive for the Zagato, original body lines, sportive flair and functional in use. The body work shows intriguing details like the front grille and the bonnet shape near the windscreen wipers. Compared with the 1300 Zagato the 1600 shows a few different details: the front bumper is slightly bigger and stronger, the rear bumper was modified, larger rear lights are fitted, new lettering on the rear of the car and a new steering wheel was fitted.
The Alfa Romeo 1600 Junior Zagato was built between 1972 and 1975. The 1600 Junior Zagato is a scarce Alfa Romeo, only 402 cars have been built.
