Originally conceived as a "Baby Duesenberg," the Cord 810's was designed by Gordon Buehrig also responsible for many body designs on the Model J & SJ Duesenbergs as well as the Auburn 851 Boattail Speedster of 1935-1936. Introduced at the 1936 New York Auto Show, the 810 caused quite a sensation, critics wrote, "The results, from an artistic viewpoint, are breathtaking ... " and another said, "For sheer taste, for functional correctness and for beauty, the 810 Cord is the best design the American industry has ever produced."

Powered by a 288 CID L-Head V-8 Engine developing 125 bhp, drive is transmitted through a 4speed gearbox and controlled by the famous Cord "fingertip" gear lever mounted on the dashboard. Braking comes from 4-wheel hydraulic drum brakes and the Cord is also distinguished by innovative engineering with its Miller race car-based front-wheel-drive technology.

This 810 Phaeton, Chassis # 2452-H, Engine # FB 1800 is ACD Club Level One Certified and a full CCCA Classic and Multi-Award Winner.

The first owner of this 810 is unknown. During the 1940’s this 810 was owned by Mr. Jack Smith, Mr. Smith kept it through the 1960’s when it was passed to Mr. Garth Temple. Mr. Temple owned the 810 until 1975 when sold to Mr. Tob Wood. It was then sold within one year to Mr. Robert Gruff who kept it until 1988 when purchased by Mr. Ervin Wright. Although in original and sound condition, Mr. Wright commissioned a proper, authentic and thorough restoration. This restoration was completed by the mid 1990’s. During the restoration, Allison Engineering cylinder heads were fitted and the transmission was rebuilt by renowned builder Lee Foldenauer.

Complete from superb restoration, this 810 received first-place awards at national, senior and premier levels in the Classic Car Club of America and a national Senior First Place award in Antique Automobile Club of America judging. It was also chosen to represent the year 1936 in the AACks 1OO-Year Parade of Automobiles and was poster car for the Stan Hywet and Glenmoor Gathering Concours d/Elegances. More importantly, from a marque viewpoint, this 810 carries Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club Level One certification number C210.

This 810 has completed two CCCA CARavans, plus many shorter runs, including the VMCCA-AACA Kentucky Glidden Tour. It has proven itself to be suitable for both driving enjoyment as well as top-rank show competition.

Recently this Cord was sold at the 2008 Gooding Pebble Beach auction to it last and most recent collector. It is offered today due to a change in mindset with regard to the collection, the elegant, sport-touring cars of the collection are being replaced with sports racing cars. Thus, this 810 is currently offered for sale and a welcomed addition to any collection.
