Noel Macklin’s Invicta company is perhaps best known for the purposeful and very quick low chassis 4.5 Litre model. However before that was produced Invicta made a small number of high quality 3 litre cars including this superb four seat sports tourer. This particular car was the subject of an interesting and informative article in the Vintage Sports Car Club’s 2006 Summer Bulletin. I recommend that people read this if they can as it gives a very useful description of what is undoubtedly a really good vintage sports car. Having just given the Invicta a fairly long road test I agree entirely with the Bulletin’s editor when he describes the engine as smooth and powerful, the gearbox as robust and positive, the brakes as good, the steering light, the ride and cornering as being in the best vintage tradition and the close coupled four seat body as being rattle free. In summary it is an elegant four seat tourer in the best tradition of high quality English sports touring cars. It is rare, it looks marvellous, it sounds wonderful and it is very satisfying to drive. It is certainly a very attractive alternative to a 3 litre Bentley or a similarly engined Lagonda and it is offered at a really fair price for something quite as good as it is. The Invicta comes with a detailed and well organised history file.
