The Lola T70 was developed in the UK with the objective of endurance sports car racing. The chassis was constructed of an aluminium monocoque that was both lightweight and rigid with impressive aerodynamics and flowing lines. Chassis SL70/3 was shown at Earls Court in January 1965 and tested the following month at Silverstone where Surtees matched the outright lap record before being sold to oil magnate John Mecom in Texas who ran his own race team. Mecom entered 03 in the 12 hours of Sebring and other USRRC events including Laguna Seca and Riverside. Mecom then returned to the UK to compete in the Guards Trophy at Brands Hatch before returning to the States where it was entered at Elkhart Lake and Bridgehampton. 03 was subsequently sold to Mac McLendon who kept 03 for over 30 years. The present owner has had 03 fully restored in its original Mecom racing livery and it is in superb condition throughout.
