As I have been blessed with owning many cars and having showed and won Concours events with them, it was always my intent to restore this car as a driver with touring in mind. Many aspects of the car were done to Concours quality including bodywork, interior and engine compartment. The underside of the car is clean but has never been detailed.

For almost its entire life, it has been a California car. It was extremely original when I purchased the car in 1977 and the car at that time only being 16 years old. It maintained all of its original parts including full belly pans.

One of only 955 manufactured and 777 remaining, including all of the re-bodies. You see more Lusso’s and Datona’s on the market today than 250 GTE 2+2’s. If you have seen one of these cars in person, they are beautiful with very appealing lines. These were the best selling Ferrari’s of all time up to 1964 and cost nearly the same as a GTO.

Several restored examples sold last year for over $250,000 but we all know that was last year.

Since it is a buyer’s market, it’s the perfect time to purchase one of these cars as next year, it will be the 50th Anniversary of the launch of the 250 GTE 2+2 which was first introduced at the 1960 Le Mans as the Course Marshal’s car. Also, it is a known fact that Enzo himself drove a GTE 2+2 for many years as his personal car.

With great regret, I am selling my car as I am moving overseas. For serious inquiries, I have more pictures and information.

About the restoration:
It was never my intention to have a 100 point car but there are certain aspects that were done to concours quality, especially the interior. The person that performed the work is one of the best in Northern California for over 40 years with many concours winning cars. The interior is done with the finest leather hides coming out of Germany and not England (Connolly). It is as good as any Ferrari that I have seen here or abroad. All the work that was performed on the car was done by the best local artisans in Northern California, including detailed engine compartment by David Nier who prepped the late Len Miller’s car (editor for the GTE Register) for Pebble Beach. His car placed 1st in the national FCA Concours in 1994.

The wheels are original to the car and were factory ordered. I think these wheels are a big bonus and look great on the car and they improve road handling. The tires are XWX Michelin’s which are a later tire but accepted at most concours events.

The color was also a factory choice and I know that there was at least one Series 1 GTE that left the factory in this color. The car was stripped down to bare metal to reveal that it had not been in an accident of any sort and a rust-free California car. There was not even a ding in either of the bumpers. It was painted in lacquer and still looks beautiful. Unfortunately, there is a small dent just below the right rear bumper and a ding in the front apron which happened in transit. I intend on having this repaired before the new owner takes delivery.

The brakes were taken apart and fully rebuilt a few years ago.

This is a rare GTE that was cared for from day one. It has only 67K miles from new.

I have kept an eye on the market for the past few years with some cars bringing extraordinary prices and other cars being more reasonable but I have not seen any GTE’s as of late that sold for under $100K that didn’t need a tremendous amount of work (interior, engine, paint or all 3).
