Known History

This car displays originality on two counts: firstly, as a creation by Gabriel Voisin, and secondly, for its Vanvooren coachwork. It is believed to be the only surviving Voisin to have been built by this coachbuilder. It has the advantage of the Vanvooren-patented aluminium construction that offered a lighter weight and greater solidity than the Weymann system. Moreover, the car had a slightly different, more elegant and sporty shape to the factory body.

We know the car's history since 1984, when it appeared in an auction organised by Hervé Poulain. At that time it was registered 2532 QW 87, and was bought by Pierre Brignole, the renowned collector from Bastia, who registered the car 155 ER 2B. In February 2013, it changed hands again in an Artcurial auction, selling to a collector from Monaco. In March 2014, the current owner, passionate about Vanvooren, acquired the car, to add it to his Volante Collection showcasing the coachbuilder's best creations. Today its presentation reflects an older high quality restoration, which has been carefully preserved over the years. The interior offers the inimitable charm of original upholstery. With its full covered wheel hubcaps and its radiator mascot, this saloon car retains all the typical Voisin features.

On the mechanical side, the car is equipped with a valveless six-cylinder engine (with sleeve valves based on the Knight system). Gabriel Voisin favoured this type of engine for its smooth and silent running.

There are only around forty examples of the Voisin C11 still in existence. The special body on this particular car makes it even rarer. In well-preserved condition, this classic is particularly appealing.

The cars in the Volante collection have been extremely well looked after and conserved. However, it must be stressed that this is a museum exhibit that has hardly been driven in recent years, and will therefore require an inspection and general service before use.
