Known History

This amazing modified VW type 2 Camper van was extensively re-built and modified during a 5 year restoration. John Sandford who customized the car was inspired by Futureliner Buses designed by Harley Earl.

The body was taken off the chassis and created a new body using some of the original usable panels and some panels from a Split Screen model. The rest was hand formed in steel. A donor front from a Split-screen bus was cut in two halves and joined together to form a narrow front, the roof is also substantially lowered. In all, the body is 70 cm narrower than the original one while retaining the original chassis. The cab steps and rear wheel arches became the frames to create the new wheel tubs. The side-steps between them are actually from a Ford F-100 truck. The doors are welded and access to the vehicle is now through a single side loading door on the right hand side. Inside, the driver is in a central position with a gear lever between the legs. The cab is fitted with an extra seat behind the driver, a bed at the rear and an imitation grass and wood floor. The car was first registered in 1973 and will be sold with its British title which has been issued before the car was modified in 2014.

This one of a kind singled seater VW camper hot rod is fully functional and will be a sensation on every road!
