Known History

It was exactly 13 years after when William Lyons repeated history by creating a major media buzz on March 15, 1961 at the Geneva Salon and not the London one, with the launch of the Jaguar E-Type, highlighting the international career of this legendary model. This was the start of a craze for the E-Type that lasted since, and the car was soon acknowledged as the most beautiful car in the world by specialized journalists. From March 1961 to October 1964, 7,669 units were produced. The XK engine, inherited from the 150 S, gave these bolides 240 km/h top speed. The design of the body was due to Malcom Sawyer, who had also designed the D-Type, the marque's glory with several victories at Le Mans.

The car on offer left the Coventry factory on January 1, 1962 and was directly exported to New York to be sold to its first owner. This is one of the few models with flat floors and welded hood grilles, of which very few models were produced. The car spent most of its life in the United States, till it was restored five years ago by a US E-Type specialist. The entire body was stripped to the chassis, countless hours were spent to get the perfect alignment of all the openings that pay an excellent tribute to the exceptional work of William Lyons at the time.

This Jaguar E-Type is certainly one of the most beautiful examples we have seen and truly the sexiest in this original color combination, with black exterior and red leather interior. It features a very elegant factory hardtop and will be delivered with its Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, its original manuals and its tool kit. The E-Type is certainly one of the most beautiful production cars ever, and this one, with matching numbers, is one of the finest examples, breathtaking by its concours condition and its purity.
