Known History

According to documents supplied by the vendor, this car was originally used by the French government in Djibouti. In August 1966, the car transported General de Gaulle during his official visit, and was used regularly on official occasions by the Republic of Djibouti. As part of these official functions, it was also used by President Georges Pompidou during his visit in January 1971. In 1979, the elegant car was spotted in the garden of the presidential palace in Djibouti by Andrť Mas, who began a tireless campaign to buy it, finally succeeding in 1982. At that time, the DS cabriolet had covered just 19 000 km, and a certificate of sale from the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Djibouti attests to the car's origin.

In 2005, Mas sold the car to the present owner who has taken care to preserve its original condition. The DS has two flags on the front bumper and the black leather upholstery is original, displaying a crackled patina. There are handlebars fixed to the back of the front seats, to allow the president to remain standing during official parades.

Having covered just 24 000 km today, this DS cabriolet comes with its French flag and original registration plate, E 43. The car not only boasts a special history but is also a very desirable version of the cabriolet. It is the first year of the DS21, with the 2.1-litre 109 bhp engine and classic grille, featuring round lights and high beam spotlights. This car has the prestige of a glorious provenance and the charm of originality, and is bound to catch the enthusiast's eye.
