Known History

In the late 1940s when Volvo introduced the PV 444, Nordic privateers started using the car to great effect. Later on, with the new PV 544, Volvo formed the Competition Services Department to support these privateers with performance parts and eventually, in the late 1950s they formed a works rally team. Amongst others they set their eyes on the young female driver Ewy Rosqvist, who, as a privateer, had already won the 1959 European Ladies cup. She drove for the works team from 1960 to 1962 with the Volvo PV544 on offer today and even won the Ladies Cup at the 1962 Monte-Carlo rally. Miss Rosqvist then became a famous Mercedes works driver and won the 1964 Argentine rally.

This Volvo PV544 is still the same configuration as it was for the 1962 Monte-Carlo rally: it retains its start number 340, its original seats, the original timing instruments and the extra lights. The car recently had a major service including replacing of fluids, water pump, fuel pump, battery and belts.

There can be very few works rally cars that can be bought for this money and this one was also driven by a very famous female driver who even signed the car on the door.
