Known History

1969 MERCEDES 300 SEL 6.3 SEDAN:

--Medium Blue with Parchment Leather interior, Blue Wilton carpeting, 6.3 Liter V8 with 3-Speed Transmission.

Factory options include: Single Seats, Instruments in English, Side view mirror left, Becker Radio, Air conditioner and Heated rear pane.

This 6.3 liter is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, the 500E of its day. The 300 SEL 6.3 was the fastest sedan of its day and had performance similar to most dedicated sports cars and American muscle cars of the era. It could cruise at over 125 mph with 5 occupants in complete comfort. Air suspension, ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels, power windows, central locking and power steering all came standard. Just over 6,500 of the 300 SEL 6.3’s were built.

This example has benefited from proper maintenance and care and has come from a well-known Southern collection. It now shows 104,000 miles from new, thus presents in absolutely excellent condition throughout, including its all original paint. This 300 SEL 6.3 is accompanied by maintenance records dating back 20 years that convey a passionate ownership history to keep this 6.3 in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. Recent servicing includes rebuilt cylinder heads, timing chain, rebuilt fuel injection pump, rebuilt transmission and complete suspension servicing. At the moment, this 6.3 has strong compression across all cylinders and drives as one would expect from a properly maintained example.

A full set of original books, jack, tools and spare tire accompany the car.

Once described by Road & Track magazine as "...merely the greatest sedan in the world" the 300 SEL 6.3 is now gaining recognition as a true collector's item and is thought of as one of the finest four-door saloon cars ever made.
