The Ferrari 250 GTO is one of the most sought after and recognisable motor cars in the world. As the ultimate development of Ferrari's long line of 250 GT cars; following on from the Tour de France and Short-Wheelbase models; the GTO is a seminal design representing the apogee of the front engine GT car. In short, it is a legend in its own right.
The car debuted in 1962 and carried on from where the Short-Wheelbase left off. Its competition successes during 1962, 1963 and into 1964, are almost too numerous to list, the highlights being GT class wins in all of the classical long distance events such as the Sebring 12 hours, Targa Florio, Nurgburgring 1000km, Le Mans 24 hours, twin outright victories in the Tourist Trophy at Goodwood and in the Tour de France.

The GTO is the epitome of the racing car which could realistically be driven on the road to a race meeting, as many were by their entrants, win its event from invariably the toughest opposition and drive home. They embody superb engineering pedigree, are stunning to look at and wonderful to drive. All in all, there is not a great deal wrong with them other than the price and as only 39 examples of the beautiful coupé were built, they are as rare as they are desirable, ensuring that demand far outstrips supply.

Inevitably then reproductions have been produced, some better than others. This is just such an example. Thanks to the nature of the construction of GT Ferraris during the 1960s and the distinct family similarities between the models, it is possible to build a faithful GTO given an appropriate donor car.

Based on a 1964 330 GT, it has been constructed to GTO specification and is powered by a 4 litre Colombo-designed V12, fitted with six Weber 'down draft' carburettors. The chassis is clothed in a well-executed reproduction of the voluptuous GTO bodywork in aluminium, believed to have been constructed by famous Italian coachbuilder Allegretti in the late 1970's.

Finished as one would expect in Ferrari's racing colour, Rosso Corsa this is a magnificent and dedicated copy of one of the most highly prized cars in the world, and for a fraction of the cost of the genuine article potential purchasers will be able to experience the thrills associated with owning and driving one of the most spectacular, exhilarating and desirable cars ever built.
