The F40 needs no introduction. It is the quintessential 'ultracar', developed by Ferrari to blast their competitors out of the limelight.

It is well-known that the F40 was launched in 1987 to celebrate Ferrari's fortieth year as a manufacturer. This car was to be Enzo Ferrari's swansong; introduced in the year before the great man died. It was the last car sanctioned personally by him and was a fitting testimony to the no-compromise character who has become one of motoring's leading figureheads.

The F40 was a car in the great Ferrari tradition to high-performance sports cars which were equally at home on the road or the race track. Following in the footsteps of such legends as the 250 Tour de France, SWB and GTO, it has successfully competed in world-class endurance racing while at the same time holding the title of "World's Fastest Production Car". Further competition success at national and club level in many countries, including the IMSA Championship in the USA, has contributed to this incredible car's outstanding reputation. It is now the most collectible of recent Ferraris and a car which every enthusiast would dearly love to drive.

F40 GTE's were built by Ferrari's customer racing specialists, Michelotto They competed in the BPR GT Championship's between 1994 and '96, with a development mule (chassis 90001) that had done two seasons in the Italian national series. In its first year, the BPR Championship attracted several marques back to GT racing, the international scene undergoing a renaissance after years in the neutral. Michelotto started work on 90001 during late 1993, enhancing it from GT '93 configuration to LM spec.

The chassis was reinforced with carbon and extra cross bracing, Michelotto also fitting thicker and stiffer anti-roll bars. Later came the track widened by two inches at the front and one at the rear. There were big brakes and wheels, GTE's getting a choice of three alternative engines that could be selected according to the nature of any given circuit. They included a 3-litre for low fuel consumption tracks like Monza, a 3.5-litre for intermediate circuits and a 3.6 for Le Mans. These GTE engines were revised, displacement being increased on all but the three-litre motor whilst output could go as high as 800bhp in unrestricted form . This wasn't only attributable to the increased capacity but also new electronic management custom mapped to optimise performance. 1995 GTE's used a six-speed sequential gearbox from the 333 SP whereas the predominantly LM-based car of 1994 had run a more or less stock five-speed.

This example of these highly developed and now legendary competition spec Ferraris has had only two owners from new and has covered a mere 8,000km. During this ownership the car the car has only ever been maintained by the ultimate Michelotto specialists and modern motorsport technicians and engineers of the highest possible calibre. The car is currently running between 750-900 bhp depending on specification and boost levels and with the gear ratios available the car is capable of reaching speed of 360 kph. As to be expected the car has more than the required stopping power to reign in the hyper speeds which it is capable of by means of a Ferrari Brembo full Le Mans Specification brake system. Further more the car has the prerequisite computer control system to ensure smooth operation of all its systems including a Bosch CPU, VM3000 programmer and Darab driving data computer. Interested parties should also note the car is also accompanied by a sustainable spares package which includes a gear box, tyres, air coolers, clutches and three different exhaust systems as well as a specially engineered system that reputed to have cost 40,000 euros to develop. In all, the entire package would have cost over 1,000,000 euros when new. The car is offered with German road registration and TUV until May 2008.
