Stylish, elegant and distinctive, the Montreal made its debut at the Montreal Expo during the 1967 World Fair in the city of the same name, an event that celebrated Canada`s centenary. It was initially fitted with Alfa`s ubiquitous four cylinder, twin-cam engine, in this case a 1,779cc unit, but by the time the Montreal was launched for limited production at the 1970 Geneva Show, this had been changed for an all-new V8. Developed from the engine of the successful Type 33 sports racer which represented a new departure in engine design for Alfa Romeo. With a capacity of 2,593cc, the sweet-revving V8 featured twin overhead camshafts per bank and produced, via Alfa Romeo/Spica fuel injection and electronic ignition, 200bhp and 173lb.ft at 6,500rpm and 4,750rpm respectively; mated to a five-speed gearbox, this provided strong performance with a 137mph maximum speed and 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds. Under the svelte Bertone designed 2 2 coupé coachwork, the floorpan was derived from the Giulia Sprint GT and sported independent coil spring front suspension, a live coil-sprung rear axle, limited slip differential and ventilated disc brakes; the result was sure-footed roadholding and ample braking in keeping with the Montreal`s high performance. Inside the stylish interior the seats had built-in adjustable headrests while an unusual feature was vacuum-operated headlamp stoneguards. In performance, design and engineering, the Montreal was knocking on the door of the supercar fraternity whilst at the same time holding on to its GT credentials.

The striking but somewhat underrated Montreal was the last 8 cylinder Alfa Romeo until the arrival of the new 8C Competizione and contrary to this modern contraption did not have to share the engine with its sister Ferrari and Maserati models. For this reason alone the Montreal should be seen in a new light. Described by the vendor as in good condition throughout, this stylish Bertone-designed Coupe has benefitted from a recent comprehensive service including changing of the cambelts. At the same time the Spica mechanical fuel injection has been overhauled by an Italian specialist of this intricate system. Complete with Italian registration documents this Montreal would grace any serious Italian car collection.



L'affascinante in parte sottovalutata Montreal fu l'ultima Alfa Romeo 8 cilindri fino all'arrivo della nuova 8C Competizione e contrariamente a tale moderno non doveva condividere il motore con le sue sorelle Ferrari e Maserati. Per tale ragione solo la Montreal dovrebbe venire vista in una diversa ottica. Descritta dal venditore come in buone condizioni generali, questa suggestiva coupè disegnata da Bertone ha beneficiato di un recente tagliando comprendente il cambio delle cinghie. Allo stesso tempo è stata revisionata da uno specialista italiano anche la complessa parte meccanica dell'iniezione Spica. Completa di documenti italiani questa Montreal abbellirebbe qualsiasi seria collezione di auto italiane.
