After some 70 years of being basically just two sides of the same company, Bentley and Rolls Royce were finally separated in 2003 - to the shock and dismay of British traditionalists, both companies were bought by England's automotive arch enemy, the Germans, the latter having been bought by BMW, the former by Volkswagen / Audi.
The Bentley Continental GT was the first such developed model and is regarded by most as the best combination of stunning looks incorporating a modern interpretation of Bentley's R-Type Continental of the 1950's and very advanced underpinnings in the form of a highly powerful up-to-date W12 engine, producing a mighty 552 bhp mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission which can be operated either in the automatic mode or via the steering wheel-mounted paddles.

As its famous predecessor, the R-Type Continental, the Bentley Continental GT was again the fastest 4 seater car in the world, propelling the car in just 4.7 seconds from 0-60 mph and being capable of a top speed in excess of 190 mph/300 km/h. To transfer this mighty force on to the tarmac, a 4-wheel drive system, a novelty for Bentley, was used. As can be expected of such a super car, a myriad of electronic helpers in the form of electronic traction control, electronic stability control and countless electronic control units help to transmit the power smoothly.

Due to the compact dimensions of the twin supercharged W12 engine, this unit could be placed behind the front wheels to guarantee near perfect weight distribution. The other advantage of having the shortest twelve-cylinder engine on the market is having more space left for the interior.

Again Bentley did not betray its heritage when designing the interior: finest Connolly hide, wood and aluminium cover nearly every surface inside the car and are tastefully arranged to give a contemporary feel while at the same time not disappointing more traditional Bentley customers. Although not cheap these cars were considerably more achievable for a wider range of customers than as was common with previous Bentleys.

The left hand drive model we are proud to offer is most attractively finished in dark sapphire blue metallic with contrasting cognac leather interior. Having had just one owner from new who has covered some 52,000 km in style with his Bentley, it is not surprising that it comes with a full Bentley service history. The manufacturer's warranty is still valid until May 2007. As one can expect from such a luxury car, it is very well equipped in standard from but the previous owner also opted for the massage seats and a TV tuner. With a list price of more than £ 115,000 ( 172.500) this must present a true bargain to purchase one of the best GT cars on the market.
