The design engineer Hans Trippel who had been producing amphibious vehicles for the Wehrmacht before the war developed the vehicle and built it from 1960 to 1963 mainly in Berlin-Wittenau at the Deutsche Waggon- und Maschinenfabrik (formerly Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabrik AG). First the bodies were manufactured by the Industrie-Werke Karlsruhe AG, IWK in a former armaments factory of the DWM in LŘbeck-Schlutup. All parts are firmly welded together. The doors are additionally locked for the ride in the water from the inside with a second handle. In the engine compartment is a bilge pump installed to pump off water in case of emergency. The Amphicar is also equipped with a position light (red / green) and a horn on the front hood.
This vehicle first was delivered to Holland in 1963. At the end of the 90s the vehicle was restored with great effort. The works are extensively photo-documented. The car is in excellent condition and is fully floatable. A German-language book comes with the car. There is no vehicle that is so versatile with so much fun!
