Since being acquired by Ferrari in 1998, this legendary Italian carmaker has been subjection a substantial plant and equipment investment in the name of vehicle quality and an ambitious growth plan.

The Maserati Coupe and Spyder were produced from 2001 to 2007 when they were replaced by the GranTurismo.

The Maserati 4200 is an evolution from the previous model 3200 and also a reference to the increase in engine size from 3.2 to 4.2 litres.

The Spyder was first unveiled to the public at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show with the Coupé’s debut following shortly after at the 2002 Detroit Motor Show.

Both cars were designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and they are a true four-seater capable of comfortably seating two adults in the back. The naturally aspirated V8 engine was based on a Ferrari unit producing 385hp at 7000rpm; the manual gearbox is a six-speed unit that was available either as a GT (manual) or CC (Cambiocorsa) using paddle shifters.

The Cambiocorsa (‘race change’ in Italian) is an electro-hydraulic manual transmission that uses a Formula 1 type gearbox with hydraulic operation and electronic management operated by F1-style paddles behind the steering wheel.

The gearbox is located at the back of the car with the rear differential giving equal weight disproportion between the front and rear of the car giving better road holding.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This desirable Maserati 4200 Spyder was built in 2004 and delivered new in the Netherlands to its first owner.

The Maserati has been regularly maintained and remains in generally very good condition, commensurate with its extremely low mileage of only 12,000 since its first registration.

Amongst the condition of the Maserati, the lining of the car needs some attention. The shape of theMaserati is extraordinary and is absolutely amazing.

When you take a seat on the drivers seat and look into the mirrors, the view is amazing as you can see the designing of the car.

The car has been used and is off-course used for some years but the exterior condition still is extremely nice. There are no dents, scratches or blemishes on the car.

CONDITION INTERIOR

Inside, the Maserati showed what could be achieved with beautiful hand stitched leather.

We have seen quite some Maseratis over the years but this certainly is one of a kind due to the amazing color combination of the car.

The condition of the interior is very nice. The seats are not damaged even as the carpets which are also still in a very nice / superb condition.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Its engine is a magnificent thing and there’s a genuine sense of occasion when you spot that Trident badge and drop into the hand-finished interior.

In its most aggressive mode, Cambiocorsa at full throttle in sport mode, it just snaps from gear to gear, firmly but not jarringly.

We enthused about a similar system’s performance in the Aston Martin Vanquish, and the Maserati’s is just as good.

We like the Spyder a lot. It’s the textbook definition of a gran turismo-as aggressive as it can get without becoming a hard-edged sports car, yet comfortable and refined enough for a seriously long, fast drive.

The Maserati Spyder is beautiful, well-engineered, nicely equipped, feeling, sounding, even smelling like an emotional Italian car should.

Complimenti, Maserati.
