stol enjoys a reputation for providing individually tailored cars for discerning motorists who desire high performance and fine handling in a discreet but opulent package. They are the archetypal modern gentleman's carriage. The Beaufighter is the continuation of a theme; with Bristol placing low stressed large capacity American V8 engines into hand-built aluminium bodies. Of greatest note was the roof design, which offered either a fully closed coupe, a targa top or a full convertible with roll-over bar. The chassis was a welded steel box section, to which was attached the separate aluminium body over steel formers. Disc brakes all round and ZF power assisted recirculating ball steering complemented the Chrysler V8 engine and Torqueflite automatic transmission. In 1980 the 412 was updated and the Beaufighter was introduced with many subtle modifications. Not so subtle was the addition of a turbocharger, and a slightly smaller engine of 5.9 litres, which saved weight, thus helping performance and handling. Motor road tested the first car produced and recorded 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds, estimating the top speed to be 140mph. As that magazine said at the time: 'Add a turbocharger to one of the world's most luxurious and exclusive cars and you come up with the fastest accelerating automatic full four seater production machine made today. And that is precisely what Bristol have done.'

This particular example offered here was the 1979 Motor Show car and was first registered in 1980. Finished in red with a black interior the car is described by the vendor to be in very good condition with the engine and automatic transmission to be in excellent order. As you would expect the car has all the creature comforts such as electric front seats and air conditioning. The car is fitted with the latest Bristol wheels but is supplied with the original items. The car has up rated front disc brakes with 3 pot calipers and the soft and hard top have all been relined. A new stainless steel exhaust has also been fitted. The car has been with the present owner since December 1985 with 2 former owners, one of which is Bristol Chairman Tony Crook.

The car is supplied with a current MoT and road fund licence valid until March next year. A V5 certificate and service sheets also accompany the car.
