Few Austin A40 race cars have been campaigned with such fervour as the car on sale today. Built especially with the coveted Top Hat 'Oldies but Goldies' series in mind, this car has never been out of the top five finishers over the past four seasons. Added to the fact that this 'Doc Shepherd' racer has been invited to Goodwood on no less that three occasions and you have all the ingredients for a 'star' performer! A stunning 3rd o/a at the 2003 Goodwood Revival puts this boast into perspective!

Built and maintained by BMC tuning guru Rae Davis of RDR Racing, this car has wanted for nothing - as its vendor has always demanded the very best in race specification. Running a potent but legal all-steel 1293cc motor, which breathes through new twin 1§ " SU carburettors on the latest RDR-developed manifold, the powerplant is mated to a straight cut/close ratio gearbox, its prestigious power ultimately being delivered through the back wheels via a competition limited slip differential. 'Spridget' front and rear brakes, using special friction material, apply deceleration to this ultra competitive 'pocket rocket's' rapid forward momentum, while specially developed RDR suspension keeps everything upright - and in front of the opposition. Interestingly from an environmental standpoint, all this tuning emits a surprisingly 'PC' 96db, so that the car can also be enjoyed on silenced track days. Immaculately turned out in period 'Speedwell' blue with an Olde English White racing stripe, many could be forgiven for thinking that this car has been delivered straight from the early days of the British Touring Car Championship to the sale via a Tardis!

Few equal cars have managed to get the better of this A40 and it would be hard to count the number on one hand that have done so, let alone the many more powerful Jaguars and Ford Zephyrs that have been humbled by the sheer speed and handling of this perennial crowd pleaser. So don't miss out on an opportunity to buy one of the most competitive cars in this truly sporting sector of historic touring car racing - if you do, it will cost you upwards of ú35K to build a replica!
