The 968 actually started development as a 944 "S3", set to replace the "S2" variant that Porsche had introduced in 1989. However, so many of the 944's components were modified or replaced entirely during development stages that Porsche chose to introduce the variant as a new model, hence the 968 nameplate.

The new model was powered by an updated version of the 944's straight-4 engine, now displacing 3 litres and producing 240 PS. Changes to the 968's power train also included the VarioCam variable valve timing system, newly-optimized induction and exhaust systems, a dual-mass flywheel, and updated engine management electronics.

The 968's engine was the second-largest 4-cylinder ever offered in a production car, and the most powerful naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine ever sold in a production automobile up to that time.

This particular 968 Coupe was manufactured in 1992 and is in excellent condition and has been well maintained with all original features present. The exterior is finished in blue with a complimentary grey interior. The 968 has an impressive performance with 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 156mph all coming from just 4 cylinders.

The car has been well serviced by during the vendor's ownership by Leigh's Garage, Fulham a renowned classic Porsche specialist. The brakes front and rear have been well maintained and recently had a full overhaul. The cam and balance shaft have also been replaced at 42,000 miles and the gearbox has been rebuilt with new pinion bearings at 37,000 miles. The car has continuous MoT certificates from October 1997 along with invoices to prove its state of health.

Porsches are always known for their performance, build quality and design. This car is no exception from the norm this 968 is an attractive all rounder and would make a great everyday vehicle for town or country.
