It is ironic that Packard should fail just as they introduced what may be the most innovative and well designed product line in the history of the company. Clearly, the blame cannot reside with the product, but rather should be redirected to a series of management misadventures, including the ill-fated merger with Studebaker.

The 1955 models were so revolutionary that Packard started its model designation system over again, referring to the new line as the first series. And new they were; a brand new, high output overhead valve V8 engine with twin four-barrel carburetors produced an amazing 310 horsepower and was coupled to a new push button Ultramatic Drive transmission.

An innovative new torsion bar suspension featured automatic leveling, making the 1955 Packard the smoothest riding and best handling full size car of the time. New styling across the board was modern, fresh and attractive. The top of the line Caribbean Convertible featured striking new three-tone paint schemes, two-tone leather interiors, and a lavish and striking dash layout.

At $5,932, the cars were breathtaking in more ways than one, yet Packard only built 500 examples, making the example presented here a very rare Caribbean. In addition to being a show winner, the 1955 Packard Caribbean Convertible is very well equipped, sporting the Ultramatic Drive transmission with overdrive, a Wonder bar radio, power windows, power brakes, and dual antennas, to name just a few desirable options. Finished in a rare and very attractive color combination of two-tone green and ivory with matching leather interior, the Convertible is sure to stand out at any event.

The sale of the 1955 Packard Caribbean Convertible presents bidders with an ideal opportunity to become the next owner of an outstanding example of the marque. This Packard is in excellent overall condition throughout and shows beautifully, displaying virtually no wear throughout the car. The 1955 Caribbean Convertibles are highly collectable and will undoubtedly continue to appreciate in both value and desirability.
