Known History

Renault 5 Maxi Turbo Gr.4

1982

Italian documents

Italian license plate

Km 23.892

This Renault 5 Maxi Turbo was part of the Scuderie Astigiana Corse and Scuderia Draghi Rossi Team, raced in the Italian Championship and in local rally example Rally CittÓ d'Asti, Rally CittÓ di Torino, and the Rally 333 Minutes with the driver Gianni Cappellino (known Italian driver who also ran with Lancia 037 Rally, Lancia Delta Integrale, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth).

Car with a Gr.4 specification with an engine of about 270HP, was completely restored in 2014 by Gilles Ciamin (the world's leading expert in the restoration of Renault 5), and after the restoration has never been used.

Purchased by the current owner (famous collector and racing historical car driver) with the idea for take part in the European Historic Rally Championship, but then it remained unused in its own collection.

The racing development of the R5 Turbo began a little bit slowly, because the Renault Sport was involved first in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and subsequently involved in Formula 1 with the first cars with turbo engine. The decline in the Group 4 rally (for which the car was developed) replaced by the debutant Group B, led Renault to focus its efforts on the French rally championship and on tests at European level, where it captured numerous successes, also highlighting in various tests valid for the world rally championship, with 4 world championship victories mainly thanks to the rider Jean Ragnotti.
