Nobody knew styling and horsepower better than Cadillac – it was the golden rule of selling cars in the 1950s. Debuting on 1948 models, Cadillac signature tailfins became a design hallmark that would last for more than 15 years. Although styling changed from year to year, designers at Cadillac knew they had to carefully maintain design continuity.

The 1955 Cadillac models were no exception to luxury. In addition to their long list of standard power equipment, an extensive selection of optional equipment was available for the 1955 line. Overall, these Cadillacs, in keeping with their predecessors, were designed for and sold to affluent Americans who believed owning a Cadillac was a statement of good taste, style and intelligence. And none exemplified this more than the Eldorado Special.

This convertible only model would only be offered for one year, and was completely distinctive from all other 1955 Cadillac models. An indication of things to come, the Eldorado Special was the first Cadillac to feature the spaceship tail fins styling that would carry forward through 1959. Not just a styling experiment, Cadillac ’ s 270 horsepower dual four-barrel V8 engine was introduced in the 1955 Eldorado Special.

The highly original 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Special convertible offered here was a single-owner vehicle until 2006 and has only been driven 15,200 documented original miles. The top, interior, carpet and most of the chrome and paint is in excellent original condition. The original spare tire is in the trunk. The parade boot has never been taken out of its packaging. With only sympathetic preservation where needed (some paint touch-up and a few pieces of chrome redone) this car remains as it was when it was sold new in 1955. The Cadillac has all the original owners books and service stickers on the door. Reported to run and drive like a 15,000 mile car should, overall the Eldorado is in excellent unrestored condition and will compete well in any AACA Preservation Class event, having already won a class award in the Original/Unrestored category at the St. Anthony Concours d ’ Elegance, Oklahoma City 2006.
