Sir William Lyons built Jaguar from his early Swallow Sidecar business on a combination of exciting styling, excellent performance and great value. Good looking sporting sedans were the marque ’ s mainstay, but starting with the SS90 and SS100 models in the late 1930s, Jaguar became even better known for its sports models.

Interestingly, the sports car that is most responsible for creating Jaguar ’ s performance image almost never was. In 1948, the XK was introduced as a display car, intended only to showcase Jaguar ’ s new double overhead camshaft six-cylinder engine, at the 1948 Earl ’ s Court Motor Show. However, the public ’ s response was so great that Sir William Lyons immediately started plans to build a production version of the XK.

As the crowning point of Jaguar ’ s legendary XK series, the XK 150 was the product of continual improvements to the lineage. Four-wheel disc brakes, a larger radiator opening for better cooling (a shortcoming of the earlier XK 120 and 140), a revised cylinder head and somewhat larger interior accommodations were among the more significant improvements. The XK 150 was introduced in two body styles, fixed head and drop head coupes (the roadster was not added until almost a year after production began). All body styles combined spirited performance with luxurious appointments such as leather trim in a package that is as appealing today as when it was new, over 40 years ago.

The beautiful 1959 Jaguar 3.4 liter XK 150S roadster we have the pleasure of offering here is a stunning car that most recently benefited from a total repaint, a complete mechanical service and professional detailing inside and out by the experts at Classic Showcase. Accordingly, we understand it to be in better then new condition and fully prepared for both road use and concours competition.

Very rare and collectable, the factory built 150S roadster features three SU carburetors, a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, dual exhausts, driving lights, and four-wheel disc brakes. A matching numbers vehicle, this XK 150S is an excellent example of the most desirable Jaguar in the XK range. Although the standard XK 150 did not fall short when it came to traditional Jaguar high performance, the expansion of the range with the 150S in coupe, convertible and roadster form gave Jaguar another arrow in their quiver versus
competition, especially in the US market.
