155hp, 251 cu. in. L-head vee eight-cylinder engine, three-speed synchronized manual transmission, live axle suspension with transverse leaf springs, four-wheel hydraulically-actuated drum brakes. Wheelbase: 112"

In 1935, Ford added a new open car to its catalog, a ô convertible sedan. ö It combined the best features of a closed body, a cabriolet and a four-door sedan into one highly adaptable, quality design that responded to the very specialized desires of a select, successful echelon of loyal Ford V8 owners.

The 1935 Convertible Sedan pictured here is a very usable example of the first year of this limited production body style from Ford. Only 4,234 were built, the lowest production of all cataloged 1935 Ford styles. The quality and exclusivity of this body style was clear from its price. The Deluxe Convertible Sedan listed for $750. That was $80, 12 percent more than the next highest list price for a 1935 Ford, which was the low production, essentially hand-built, station wagon.

The Ford is handsomely presented in red with matching painted wire wheels with chrome trim rings and center caps. The Ford was subjected to a series of modifications by the late Glenn Shaffer featuring mostly 1930s vintage parts. Underhood resides a 1936 large bearing 155 horsepower, 251 cubic inch flathead V8 engine with 21 stud Eddie Myer cylinder heads, an Eddie Myer high-riser intake manifold, dual carburetors, a 1953 Mercury crankshaft and a Denton exhaust system. To assist with drivability, hydraulic brakes were installed, as was a four-speed synchronized manual transmission with overdrive. To deal with the additional loads of pulling a trailer, a special cooling system kept the engine from overheating, allowing comfortable cruising at speeds up to 70mph.

The trailer included in the sale of the 1935 Ford was custom built to match the convertible sedan using 1935 Ford fenders, bumper and tail lights. The trailer features a queen-size bed, two access doors, a front luggage storage area, and a large rear storage area.

Thoughtfully modified for enjoyable, reliable performance on tours and events, this 1935 Ford Convertible Sedan and trailer is ideal for anyone who wants to demonstrate the style, comfort and adaptability of the very limited production convertible sedan from its first year in the Ford catalog.
