160bhp, 331 cu. in. overhead valve V8 engine, Carter WCD two-barrel carburetor, Hydra-Matic transmission, front coil spring and rear semi-elliptic leaf spring suspension, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 133"

Although 1949 saw the one-millionth Cadillac roll off the assembly line, Cadillac ’ s greatest accomplishment that year was undoubtedly their all-new V8 engine. Cadillac ’ s first overhead valve V8 design, the 331 cubic inch engine, produced 160bhp and was engineered with five main bearings, hydraulic valve lifters and breathed through a Carter WCD two-barrel carburetor. It was a fantastic engine that would live on, practically unchanged for the next 50 years.

Visually, the 1949 Series 62 was set apart from the other models primarily by trim. The front fender stone shields and rocker panel moldings were grooved. The hood line was stretched and with the goddess ornament moved forward, it provided the 1949 Cadillacs with a longer, sleeker look. A new, bold and distinctive grille graced the front end, extending around the fenders and the wheel openings setting off the Cadillac ’ s low and wide stance.

Inside, a fully revamped interior featured a new instrument panel, door moldings, trim and stylish line of materials. Power windows were standard only on the Convertible Coupe and Coupe DeVille models.

If this Cadillac looks familiar, you may already own it! The Franklin Mint used this car to make their 1949 Cadillac scale die-cast model. Finished in a deep blue with a light blue top, the entire leather interior was recently refinished in a similar hue. Currently wearing 1953 Cadillac Eldorado wire wheels, if the next owner should prefer the correct period look, a set of 1949 style tires, wheels and hubcaps are included in the sale of the Cadillac. Very attractive, professionally restored and with the revolutionary 1949 Cadillac Overhead Valve V8 engine, the Coupe de Ville offered here is a premiere example of one of the most usable and enjoyable post war Cadillacs.
