Since its inception, the Ford Model T was the most affordable and attainable car on the road. In its 19 years of production, the Model T would serve as the benchmark automobile for the Ford Motor Car Company by ushering the relatively small and innocuous car company into the world market. A delightful little car, the Model T offered ease of operation, durability and competitive pricing to a large audience.

As the automotive landscape took shape, Ford adapted by making changes and improvements to the Model T bloodline. Early changes included, shifting the steering wheel from the right hand side of the car to the left, which greatly improved the confidence of drivers commuting the ever-congesting byways and boulevards of America. Other changes were made to accommodate economy of scale, as evidenced by the shift away from brass to nickel in 1917, which in the volume that the Model T was being produced (over 700,000 in 1917) greatly increased Ford ’ s margin of profit.

Of the various Model T body styles available in 1917, the Coupelet offered full protection from the elements while doubling as a convertible with glass side windows. Trimmed in diamond-tufted elegance with ornate window lifts and a landau ironed, wool lined leather roof, the Coupelet was Ford ’ s way of combining both the coupe and the cabriolet into one unique offering – many believe it to be the first true convertible.

The 1917 Ford Model T Coupelet offered here is a very rare breed, as there are less than 25 know to exist. The Coupelet is fully restored to original specifications and is an AACA first place champion. Equipped with a 176 cubic inch four-cylinder engine developing 20 horsepower and 83 foot-pounds of torque, this Model T is a very capable little motor car.
