Model 68. 85hp, 221 cu. in. L-head vee eight-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission, live axle suspension with transverse leaf springs, four-wheel mechanically-actuated drum brakes. Wheelbase: 112"

Ford redesigned its passenger cars and light trucks in 1935. It was a major undertaking, moving the engine a full eight inches forward in the chassis, which brought the passengers ’ compartment forward as well. The engineers ’ purpose was to create more interior space in sedans and to locate all the occupants within the chassis wheelbase for a smoother ride. In the process, however, they created ideal proportions for light trucks built on the passenger car chassis. With the cab moved forward, the cargo area could be longer yet with reduced rear overhang. Cargo weight was located more centrally for better handling and stability.

The trucks were little changed for 1936. Now placed forward of the front wheels, the grille carried two horizontal bars along with the vertical fins of 1935. The old-fashioned headlight bar now was gone, with the headlights mounted independently on each fender. Gracefully shaped with a tapered shield outline, the grille carried the passenger car identity into the truck line and the spare was now mounted in the longer space between the back of the passenger ’ s door and the rear fender instead of being recessed into the front fender.

The 1936 Ford Pickup offered here has been sympathetically restored to a very appealing standard while retaining much of its originality. Finished in sand and pinstriped in red, the interior is upholstered in black. It is handsomely equipped including red painted steel wheels with V8 emblem hubcaps and stainless steel trim rings mounted with BF Goodrich wide whitewall tires. Among its other notable features are a greyhound radiator cap, twin horns, dual mirrors, a pair of Ford-scripted fog lights on the front bumper, twin taillights, chrome bumpers and a Ford-scripted chrome exhaust deflector. The bed has wood side rails lettered for the Red and White grocery store in Sanford, Maine. At some point in its life, accessory turn signals have been added for safety and convenience.

This is a high quality pickup in the very desirable 1935-1936 Ford style that any collector will be proud to own and drive. It will show well in local competition and is an admirable example of the adaptability of the Ford V8 engine to commercial applications.
