Introduced in 2006, the 599 GTB Fiorano continued the Ferrari tradition of building front-engine V-12 sports cars. In 2011, the 599 GTO – which stands for gran turismo omologato – shared a familial resemblance with the 599 GTB, but was cultivated through lessons learned from the extreme, track-only 599XX. Essentially lifted from the 599XX, the GTO’s 6.0-liter V-12 produced a mighty 656 hp at 8,250 rpm and 459 lbs./ft. of torque, and was mated with a F1-Superfast 6-speed sequential manual transaxle. Innovations included a short-tract aluminum intake manifold; a new crankshaft; low-friction, superfinished cam lobes; and hydraulic tappets coated with diamond-like carbon to further reduce internal friction. A new front splitter, side sills, diffuser and rear spoiler, and vented hood contributed to a more visually aggressive look over the standard 599 and yielded performance gains via reduced drag, optimized downforce, and additional airflow to the oil radiator. Thinner aluminum, carbon fiber panels, a lightweight interior, carbon ceramic brakes, and hollow anti-roll bars reduced 220 pounds of mass. The improvements helped yield a lap time of one minute, 24 seconds, around Ferrari’s Fiorano test track – faster than the Enzo at the time – and delivered 0–60 mph in a breathtaking 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of over 208 mph. Chris Harris of Britain’s EVO magazine waxed euphoric when he reviewed the GTO in June 2010, writing, “It’s a detail masterpiece, a track genius, a road tonic and yet another great Ferrari. Oh, and it fully deserves the badge.” This particular 2011 599 GTO is finished in Bianco Avus with a contrasting black roof and mirrors, and was sold new in December 2010 through Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Well-equipped from the factory, this GTO was additionally specified with a black leather interior with white accent stitching, heated power Daytona seats, heat insulating windscreen, privacy rear window glass, iPod connectivity, Alcantara trim, and carbon fiber accents for an MSRP of $476,615. Registering less than 3,000 miles at the time of cataloguing, this GTO is accompanied by its original window sticker, books, tools, car cover, and CARFAX report. Presenting in stunning condition throughout, the entire front end is wrapped in a protective clear bra. The GTO moniker is not something Ferrari takes lightly. The original 250 GTO dominated GT racing in the 1960s while the 288 GTO helped invent the modern supercar genre. One of just 599 produced for worldwide consumption and reserved for Ferrari’s VIP clientele, the sale of this modern-day successor is a chance to purchase an extremely exclusive and capable Ferrari.
