Known History

CitroŽn SMs are not that common, and good examples with a clear history like this car are all the harder to come by. Indeed, this car has had just one owner from new. Interestingly, it was in fact the owner's father who bought the car in 1972 and immediately registered it in the name of his son, a medical student at the time, on 22 February that year. He chose an original and elegant combination of colours, with Orient Blue paintwork and an orange cloth interior, set off by the optional ďRRď (for reinforced resin) wheels.

As its unique owner has confirmed to us:

ĒThis car, the first model of the SMs, three Weber twin choke carburettors, has the rarity of being equipped with resin wheels called RR made by MICHELIN which were optional when the car was produced. In fact, you had to be very well introduced to MICHELIN to get them. This was the case for the CITROňN dealer, in CARPENTRAS, Mr Jean BERNARD, who was able to obtain them for my father. These wheels were produced in very few copies and during a very short period of time. They very quickly disappeared from the options offered. They are mainly seen on competition models. ď

The car was then regularly but carefully used, which accounts for its exceptional condition today, with just over 99,000 km recorded. A few years ago, the car was resprayed in its original colour. The steering wheel has just been changed. The magnificent cloth interior remains original, and we noted the presence of an optional Blaupunkt radio from the period, as well as a pair of Bosch fog lamps.

This SM, in the sought-after carburettor version, belongs to that desirable group of cars which have a soul and which have retained the characteristic smell of their time ... Qualities which are becoming increasingly rare..
