Known History

Horacio Pagani first came to the public's attention when he launched the Pagani Zonda in 1999. Passionate about cars from a young age, the Argentinian studied industrial design and engineering and was a friend of Juan-Manuel Fangio. In 1983 he moved to Modena, the Italian hub for racing and race cars. After working for various manufacturers, in particular Lamborghini, he set up his own marque in 1992. Work then began on the development of his first model, the Zonda, named after a wind that blows over the Andes Cordillera.

As soon as it appeared the Zonda was hailed as one of the most brilliant supercars of its time : equipped with a 394 bhp V12 Mercedes engine and capable of 300 km/m, there were few other cars to match it 20 years ago.

Unlike many other less committed constructors with but the fleeting trace of a single model to their names, Horacio Pagani has ensured his marque will live on. Development to the Zonda has been continuous and various special versions have helped to build the constructor's reputation and client base.

With a design dating back to the early 1990s, it is not unsurprising that ten years after it first appeared, the Zonda began to be overtaken by its rivals. And so, in 2011 Pagani unveiled a new model, the Huayra, at the Geneva Motor Show. The name comes from the Andean God of Wind, Huayra Tata. Like its predecessor, the Huayra adopted a V12 Mercedes AMG engine, this time with twin turbochargers taking the power to 700 bhp ! This, together with its lightweight design, gave the car a staggering top speed of 385 km/h. In appearance, the car retained a familial resemblance to the Zonda, sharing the shape of the lights and four exhausts joined at the back, suggesting the tailpipe of a jet plane.

However, the model that interests us here is the product of yet further evolution. In 2017, six years after the coupé first appeared, Pagani presented the Huayra Roadster. The delay can be explained by its total re-design in relation to the closed version. Pagani wanted this to be a specific model rather than simply a strengthened coupé with the top cut off. This uncompromising approach allowed the Roadster to weigh just 1 280 kg, (less than the coupé), achieved through the use of a rare and innovative alloy, carbo-titanium, which even improved the rigidity. It also had a carbon fibre roof panel and lightweight canvas hood. This highly advanced machine adopted the twin turbo 6-litre Mercedes V12 engine with power now increased to 764 bhp, making the Roadster version more powerful that the coupé, which is rarely the case.

This beast has recently been delivered to its first owner who ordered three, one for each of his properties ! Having now sold one of his villas, he is selling this car at cost price, even though all 100 examples have already found buyers !

On the day our photos were taken the odometer displayed just 50km, the delivery mileage. It is quite simply a new car and in this colour combination, this Huayra Roadster will turn heads wherever it goes !

The car on offer therefore presents a rare opportunity to buy, virtually new, one of the most powerful and exclusive supercars of all time.
