Known History

An original French car, this exceptional Group B Manta 400 was rallied by the gifted driver Hugues Delage, who won several rallies in France and the Coupe de France des Rallyes in 1990 and 1993. It still has its technical passport from the time, issued in 1986 and showing its competition history until 1991. It also competed in the French overseas departments and territories, notably in Guadeloupe, where it was damaged in an accident and left on the spot. In 2016, the renowned founder of the C.M.R. Team in Alès, Charly Bourachot, undertook the restoration and technical preparation of the car on behalf of its current owner. The original bodyshell was too badly damaged, so it was rebuilt from another Manta with the strengthening specific to Group B. The engine, a 2441 cc “four“ with a Guerent head which now develops over 300 bhp, was also rebuilt by Jean-Luc Bolla, a well-known Ascona 400 specialist. The “dog box“ is a five-speed Getrag, similar to that in the BMW M3, while the limited-slip diff comes from a rally version of the Opel Monza. Following the work in 2017, an FIA technical passport was issued and remains valid until 2027, a testament to the scope and standard of the work carried out. Set up in this way, the car was entered in a number of historic rallies, including the Tour de Corse. It has covered about 2000 km since being restored and has recently been serviced. Rarely offered for sale, the Group B Manta 400 offers performance, reliability and exclusivity. This example, carefully set up by well-known professionals, is ready to take part in the top historic rallies.
