Known History

With the 997 generation, Porsche introduced the fourth version of the Speedster, to fill the gap left by the 964 in 1993. The legendary 356 had started this dynasty in the mid-1950s, and it resumed thirty years later with the narrow-bodied and Turbo-Look Carrera 3.2 followed by the 964. Production of the 997 Speedster was limited to 356 examples world-wide, a number a nod to the original model built at the request of importer Hoffmann, and the cars all sold within days. The 997 Speedster was only available in two colours, pure Blue and the Carrera White of our example. Built on the base of the Carrera S and fitted with the 408 bhp 3800cc GTS engine, the Speedster had a top speed of 302 km/h. The rear track was widened by 4.4 cm and the more steeply inclined windscreen was shortened by 6cm. This, enhanced by the double bubble behind the seats already used on earlier models, gave the car a sportier look. Superb black 19-inch Fuchs wheels revealed the imposing yellow six-cylinder brake calipers of the highly efficient PCCB system. These models were delivered with all the options, including black leather upholstery overstitched in the colour of the body to stunning effect.

Our example, number 272, was first registered on 20 July 2011, delivered new by the Porsche Centre Egreteaud in Bordeaux. The car has had just two owners, having been in the hands of the first owner until the start of 2020. With a little over 19 000 km on the clock today, this Speedster, collectable from new, offers the perfect compromise between tradition and modernity, comfort and performance. It is ready to take to the road, having just benefitted from a full service carried out at Signatures, the Porsche Centre in Perpignan. The four Michelin tyres have also just been replaced. Conserved in excellent condition, this Speedster will be delivered with all its manuals, a spare set of keys and custom-made protective cover. The Speedster, sought after from day one, has helped to consolidate the Porsche legend and has always been popular with informed collectors. The 1948 examples of the most recent Speedster 991 have also all found buyers…
