Known History

After the 488 GTB and the 488 Pista, Ferrari went further still when it added a convertible version to its range. While the Pista had been unveiled at the Geneva Show in 2018, Ferrari chose the prestigious concours d'élégance at Pebble Beach in August 2018 to present the new version. This decision spoke volumes about the character of the Spider, which was less radical than the Pista berlinetta and oriented more towards glamour and the sheer pleasure of driving. Ferrari presented it as the company's 50th open-topped model and the most powerful spider in its history. The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider combined the ultimate technological solutions developed for racing with the joy of driving in the open air, for a thrilling experience behind the wheel.

The structure was therefore strengthened to compensate for the absence of a roof, making it heavier than the berlinetta. But it kept the same 720 bhp engine, which had been named “International Engine of the Year“ three times in a row (in 2016, 2017 and 2018) by a jury of motoring journalists. It delivered exceptional performance, reaching 100 kph (62 mph) in under 3 seconds and close to 340 kph (211 mph) flat out.

When it came to sheer enjoyment, the 488 Pista Spider was fitted with an electrically retractable hardtop with a complex folding mechanism taking only 14 seconds. The operation could even be carried out while the car was moving, at up to 40 kph (25 mph). The interior was kitted out competition- style, with a subtle blend of high-grade materials such as carbon fibre and Alcantara, as well as a sophisticated steering wheel with all the important controls, including Ferrari's famous “Manettino”. Wrapped around all this was a body in a subtly sporting design, featuring the inevitable air intakes and a streamlined headrest for each passenger, in the best tradition of sports prototypes.

This Pista Spider was delivered to its current owner by the Ferrari dealer in Malmö, Sweden. It was ordered with 39 options, including a full Alcantara interior, a very powerful sound system and additional carbon fibre body trim, including the fuel flap. But it is the unique colour combination chosen by the owner which is exceptional: Verde “Green jewel“ with a burgundy interior and matt gold wheels, not unlike a certain Lamborghini Miura SV! This Pista Spider has covered just 25 km since leaving the factory and is offered for sale by its first owner, an enthusiast with a particular love of Ferraris! It will be supplied with its original invoice and documentation.

Capable of lapping a track or driving over the most spectacular mountain passes, the 488 Pista Spider offers a perfect blend of performance, pleasure and good looks. In other words, a shot of pure emotion and one of the most outstanding Ferraris ever made.
