Known History

The first rear mid-engined production Maserati, the Bora created a sensation when it was presented at the Geneva Show in 1971. Its design by Giugiaro offered a mix of modernity, elegance and aggressiveness, while its 4.7-litre V8 developing more than 300 bhp gave it first-rate performance, backed up by very safe handling.

As Fabio Collina from Maserati's Classiche department confirmed, this example left the factory on 17 March 1972 and was sold new in Turin. From new, it had one of the most sought-after colour combinations, with Ischia blue paintwork married to a tan leather interior. Attracted by its condition, its current owner, a specialist in car repairs and the proprietor of a garage in Germany, bought it in 2001. He then set about a meticulous restoration of the car. The bodywork was removed and the car repainted in its original colour, while the engine, gearbox, axles and brakes were completely restored. Numerous parts were replaced at this time. The magnificent leather upholstery was restored in accordance with the original specification, and the dashboard and steering wheel refurbished. The car had a recorded mileage of 67,708 km on 12 June 2013, and today the odometer is showing just under 79,000 km. Since the restoration was completed, the car has been meticulously maintained and used sparingly.

In exceptional condition and remarkable to drive, this outstanding Bora with its “matching numbers“ engine and elegant colour combination represents an opportunity which does not arise every day. For the record, only 289 cars were built with the 4.7L engine.

We would like to thank Fabio Collina from Maserati Classiche for his invaluable assistance.
