Known History

The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was launched at the New York Motor Show in February 1954. Under the influence of Max Hoffman, the official importer of Mercedes-Benz in the United States, the brand developed this “little sister“ to the 300SL, with comfort given importance over performance. The 190 SL took over the independent coil spring suspension of the 180 Ponton sedan. It was powered by a modern four cylinder of 1897cc, developing 105bhp, and mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Its elegance combined with healthy handling and a quality finish made the 190 SL a real success.

The vehicle one offer is exceptional in more than one way. It is one of the last models from 1955, delivered new in Germany. Moreover, it underwent a comprehensive restoration during 2006/2007 in Holland by the Mercedes specialist, Van Dijk , at a total cost of € 62,000. It was delivered new on February 21, 1956 by the Mercedes agent in Mannheim, and acquired by an American from Bogart, Georgia, in 1968, who kept it until 2006, when the current owner acquired it. It was during this year that he undertook the comprehensive restoration. Since the completion of restoration, this 190 SL has been maintained by Van Dijk. Its condition is very impressive in terms of quality. The thick folder, presented in a box, is composed of the original workshop manual and the complete set of invoices of the restoration and the regular service. In short, this very beautiful example is ready for the summer and sunny roads.
