Also of note, the beautiful special order "Cosmoblau" paint was only offered on European Market cars for 2 years, from 1984 to 1986. It is by far one of the rarest and most beautiful of the color combinations offered.

- Import Docs (Antwerpen to Baltimore) and Original Purchase Receipt From KOHL Automobile

- Delivered to 1st U.S. Customer In April 1985, under the optional “Tourist Delivery” program.

- Power Windows
- Headlamp Wipers
- Yellow Enduro Driving/Fog Lamps
- 16" 2-Piece BBS Wheels
- New Pirelli Tires
- Original German Owners Manuals and complete and total records from new.

This vehicle has just received more than $6,000 in fresh services, safety checks and new tires and it has no running time since the work was completed.

This incredibly original example has long been regarded by aficionados as the “Bench-Mark” example by which all others are judged. Despite having covered 57K miles over the years, the vehicle looks, smells, feels and drives as if it had rolled out the showroom just yesterday.

Individual History:
The original owner of this BMW, a marque enthusiast, named, Raymond Earl Holland Jr., of Fallston, Maryland was not satisfied with the detuned North American Market versions. He specially wanted an original, pure “German” market version and special ordered this particular example under BMW’s “Tourist Delivery” program. All of the original records and documents for this remain with the vehicle. The order and configuration details where submitted in September of 1984 and approved later that month. BMW internal records state the car was completed on November 2nd and delivered to their Aachen, Germany official distributor, Kohl Automobile GmbH the original ordering dealer on November 14th. (Even today, the original "Kohl Automobiles” dealership decal remains affixed to the glass of the car.)

The original owner, took delivery of the car at Kohl Automobile on April 4th, 1985 and enjoyed it on a personal holiday. His purchase included temporary road-registration and insurance for six months. Upon completion of his holiday, the car was returned to Kohl Automobile where it was serviced and detailed prior to shipping to port Antwerp for follow on shipping to Baltimore where it cleared customs and most importantly was exempted from EPA and DOT requirements under the now obsolete “Personal Goods Exemption” rule for a used vehicle owned outside “CONUS” (Continental United States.) By using this “loophole” rule, this very fortunate BMW escaped getting the dreaded Federalization modifications to the body and drive-train. It is believed to be one of just a handful that came new to the States in this manner. To date, no others have been actually identified and this may be the only example that survives.

As part of his original Tourist Delivery package, Raymond Holland received a BMW North America 12 month, unlimited mileage warranty and this was stamped by the selling dealer Kohl Automobiles in the original warranty book. The original German warranty book received just the single delivery stamp in the book. BMW of North America confirmed on February 14th, 1986 that the warranty would be honored in the States by formal letter, however The remaining services were all completed in the United States after delivery.

To remain compliant and USA legal, Holland submitted type compliance application forms to the EPA and DOT on August 9th, 1985 stating the vehicle complied fully with EPA and DOT requirements. It did not of course and he was very fortunate that the car remained completely in the original German Market configuration and remains this way even today.

The car remained with the original owner for more than a decade and then quietly passed through the hands of three very caring owners who each meticulously preserved and conserved the car like the true “automotive treasure” that it was.

The second owner was John Miska of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He purchased the car in 1996 with 31,300 miles.

The third owner was Mike and Susan Burger of Pacific Grove, California. They purchased the car in December of 2008.

The car was shown many times at BMW and German vehicle events as well as several “BIMMERFEST events where it consistently took top honors.

Most recently a complete and total major service was performed less than 250 miles ago and all new tires fitted at the same time.

A BMW Authenticity Heritage Certificate confirms the vehicle is all matching numbers and remains exactly as it was when sold new in the Fall of 1984.

There is little doubt, this is likely the finest surviving example left in the world. You could spend twice the price and the rest of your life and never will you ever find its equal!

Please contact me if I can assist further in anyway with the purchase of this very special machine.

Kind regards always,

Bill Noon
