History

After the 5000GT and Quattroporte, Mexico is Maserati's third road car equipped with a V8 racing engine, derived from the racing prototype 450S Sport.

Of the original Quattroporte, Mexico shared the construction idea in general, although it is said that the first prototype was actually derived from a 5000GT that was destroyed, which was used by the designers of Casa Maserati for the modifications that led to the final model.

Mexico sported an elegant and refined body design by Vignale and unlike the other four-seater coupes of Maserati, it did not bore the name of a racing circuit.

The name Mexico was chosen because the 5000GT, which had been used as a prototype, belonged to President Adolfo López Mateos of Mexico, and returned to Mexico after being presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1965.

It was a perfect and fitting conclusion, but also pure coincidence, that John Surtees ended the 1966 Formula 1 season with a convincing victory at the Grand Prix.

Mexico Prize behind the wheel of a Maserati Cooper T81, which helped to highlight even the most elegant and desired series model of the moment.

Launched in 1966 at the Paris Motor Show, Mexico's production proposed the same engine variants as the Quattroporte, namely the 4.2 or 4.7-liter versions.

Mexico was the first maserati as standard to be equipped with self-wheeled disc brakes and servo-assists on all four wheels.

Built from 1966 to 1972: n. 305.
