Talbot MATRA MURENA 1982
The company that built those cars was Matra (a contraction of Mecanique Aviation TRAction), an aerospace and defence company that branched out into the production of road and racing cars.
History :

In 1980, the first fruit of that alliance was revealed: a wedge-shaped slice of automotive sculpture that would replace the Bagheera in Peugeot-Talbot’s line-up. The name of that car? The Talbot-Matra Murena. Was launched at the Paris Motor Show in September 1980 , make a favourable first impression, and most journalists couldn’t wait to get their hands on it.
Most notably, the Murena carried over the distinct feature of three-across seating. The main differences were that the Murena had a higher build quality and more power.

The Murena represented a sizeable evolutionary step over the Bagheera. It looked more modern, had the world’s lowest drag factor for a mid-engined production car (a record it would keep until it was bettered by the ultra-low production Panther Solo in 1989) and, significantly, was the first series production car in the world to have its entire chassis protected against rust by means of hot-dip galvanisation.

On the powertrain front, the Murena was initially offered with a 1592cc overhead valve unit (the final development of the venerable Simca Poissy unit used in the Bagheera and various Simcas), but it was soon supplemented by a 2155cc SOHC unit which also saw service in the Talbot Tagora.

The last sports car produced by the company that took Jackie Stewart to his first World Drivers’ Championship and ensured Graham Hill’s place in sporting history as the first (and so far only) man to have won the World Drivers’ Championship, the Le Mans 24 hours and the Indianopolis 500.

ENGINE and GEAR BOX :
The base mid-engine of the Talbot-Matra Murena is a Simca Poissy unit in its largest capacity configuration of 1592cc and with the twin carburettors. This is the 6J2A in-line OHV four cylinder engine producing 91hp .
Fited with a five speed manual gearbox and so should accelerate well, handle nicely and provide fun for the driver .

CHASSIS -BODY - SUSPENSION :
The car has a mid-engine and so with the three front seats and the mid-engine achieves a pretty much perfect 50/50 weight distribution front to rear. The suspension consists of longitudinal torsionbars in front (as on the Simca and Talbot Alpine) - but at the back the transverse torsion bars have been replaced with McPherson struts. The brakes are discs all around. The balance of this car is extremely good, and the tire-grip is astonishing - you'll take corners in this car much faster than in most other cars ... it is very adictive
The air resistance coefficient is down to 0.32 which makes it the worlds most sleek mid-engined sportscar up to 1988
That streamlined style was an obvious result of the many hours spent honing the design in the wind tunnel.
