The Eighth Series Packards of 1931 were noted for their four speed transmissions, elongated front fenders and were the last Packards built with the hallmarked flat radiator. The Super Eight Series, built on a 140 ” and 145 ” chassis were equipped with Packard ’ s well known straight eight engine which produced 120 horsepower. The Super Eight Packards were fitted with coachwork built in-house by Packard as well as custom bodies built by some of America ’ s leading coach building firms. This rare example sports a desirable convertible victoria body built by the Webster, Massachusettes firm of Waterhouse .The Waterhouse convertible victoria body was first designed in 1928 and was first shown at the Paris Auto Show on a Packard chassis. Unlike other convertible victorias of the period, the Waterhouse body features a rakish windshield and a top mechanism which blends into the body line when in the folded position. It is one of five convertible victoria bodies fitted to the Eighth Series chassis and believed to be one of only two built on the shorter 140 ” chassis and equipped with dual rear spare tires. This example is an excellent older restoration of an original and well-maintained vehicle. It would be an ideal candidate for any of the country ’ s leading concours d ’ elegances as well as a welcomed participant in any events sponsored by the Classic Car Club of America.
