The "Beetle" was the perennial favorite in the VW range until the end of the 1970s and, as the "1303" model, was given a panoramic windshield from 1972, which gave the tried-and-tested classic a modern look at that time. The car, which was continuously improved over its production period, now also featured large taillights, a front apron with air intakes and a redesigned dashboard with impact protection. Due to its unbroken popularity, the convertible version was still produced until 1980, before the end came for the open version as well...

This example was first delivered in May 1978 to the VW dealer "Wes Lasher Volkswagen" in Sacramento / California, as the original VW checkbook shows. It is equipped with the original 1.600 engine with fuel injection and the ergonomic seats of the last model update. The Beetle-typical clear equipment is upgraded here by a colorglass windshield, leather steering wheel and shift knob as well as a Pioneer CD radio. The black soft top has just been completely renewed by an upholsterer in high-quality “Sonnenland” fabric.

The floorpan and body of this convertible were rebuilt by a master coachbuilder and therefore present themselves far above average and completely rust-free. After restoration of the body, the car received an elaborate complete paint job in the original color in which the car was delivered to California at the time. The interior has received brand new leatherette seat covers, carpets and door & side panels. With the also very good and mostly new chrome, trim & add-on parts, the Beetle's appearance is absolutely like new, as also confirmed by the current value appraisal.

The entire technology has been overhauled by a restoration company. The engine also received a partial overhaul (invoice available) and runs as you would expect from an air-cooled VW boxer engine. The vehicle starts immediately and drives flawlessly - on steel rims that have been blasted, repainted and re-tired. The total cost of the restoration was over EUR 40,000! The vehicle is delivered with now renewed MOT including historic car approval, is immediately ready for registration and is also well equipped for long trips.
