Perhaps the enduring icon of the 80's mid engined Supercar, the Ferrari 512 TR - aka "Testarossa" - presented an exciting new design language for Ferrari when it was introduced at the 1984 Paris Motorshow. The wide hips paired with horizontal slats accentuated the model's width, although the bold styling served a dynamic purpose. The prominent intakes extracted clean air to the side mounted radiators, which was then re-directed upwards and out of the rear of the car by a series of channels located on the engine lid and tail of the car. These conferred upon the car a highly efficient aerodynamic form and a low centre of gravity which resulted in performance commensurate with what was at the time the flagship of the Ferrari model range.
The 512 TR addressed two critiscms of the car's predecessor - the 512BBi, namely reducing excessive cockpit heat resulting from the earlier car's plumbing of the front mounted radiator unit that ran through the cabin in order to pair with the mid-mounted engine and also dealing with the lack of useable luggage space, addressed in the Testarossa by making the car slightly larger in order to accommodate more storage space.
The 512M was the run-out model of this design and featured a longitudinally mounted 4.9 litre 48 valve Flat-12 producing a greater maximum power output of 440hp at 6,750rpm with a generous 500Nm of Torque at 5,500rpm. The 512M engine was further refined with the fitment of new titanium connecting rods and crankshaft (weighing 7.26kg less than their predecessors) which meant that this powerful flat-12 reached it's 7,500rpm rev limiter with alacrity.
The "modificata" swansong for the 512, also featured visual changes including replacement of the original pop-up headlights, being replaced by fixed lamps beneath clear covers, a reduction in grille size, addition of round tail lamps and 3 piece wheels.
Only 501 examples of the 512m were made and apart from a number of more extreme very limited edition models such as the F50/Enzo/LaFerrari - it was the last flat crank flat 12 mid engined Ferrari offered - the 512m being subsequently replaced by the more practical front engined 550 Maranello.
Capable of 196 mph, with the legendary flat 12 engine paired to a manual exposed gate gearbox - this is one of the last true analogue Ferrari driving experiences - unfettered with unnecessary electronic driving aids to dilute the purity and thrill of harnessing a big 12 cylinder Ferrari on the road. Speaking of which, the 512m is an eminently driveable Ferrari and the howl of the flat 12 near the top end of its rev range belies the docility of the power unit in traffic - not an attribute shared by all classic Ferrari on today's busy roads...

Our example is just 1 of 41 UK RHD examples, 1 of 75 RHD examples, this from a total production run of only 501 cars. Registered new in January 1996 and used as the Lancaster Ferrari demonstration model, the car was specified in the evocative colours of classic Rosso Corsa over Crema and today presents in superb condition.
This superb presentation of the car is hardly surprising, in that the car has only 17,828 miles in the last 25 years and has a full comprehensive service history supporting the care and attention that has been lavished on the car throughout it's ownership. Recently the benefactor of a thorough mechanical service by world renown specialistsfor this model, our car comes complete with a letter attesting to it's UK registration from Ferrari Historian Tony Willis.
A rare, low mileage example, matching numbers throughout and with documented history - this "red head" awaits a new custodian to exercise and cherish, what is a superb example and fitting end to the modern Testarossa legend.
