The 312PB Ferrari was undoubtedly one of the finest racing machines to have competed in sports car racing in the early seventies. It had formidable racing success and dominated the races that it competed in over the period from 1971 to 1973. The 312PB was effectively a Grand Prix car clothed in a light weight sports car body which featured the 3.0 Litre Flat 12 Boxer engine as used in the 1970 312B Formula One Car.

The rules for sports car racing were to change in1969 when the CSI made 5 litre cars only eligible for two more seasons declaring that the limit for the Constructors Championship would be three litres. This spawned the development of the 312 which was ready to race by 1970. The power output of the newly developed Boxer engine was 440BHP at 10,800 RPM and this was raised gradually during the 312PB's career to just under 500BHP in 1973 Le Mans specification. The lightweight body panels meant the car weighed in at 670kg providing phenomenal performance.

The car that we are proud to offer today is chassis 0880, used by Clay Regazzoni and Jacky Ickx throughout the 1971 season. The car competed in a number of championship races scoring first place at the Kyalami 9 hours, first place at the first run of 500KM Imola with Regazzoni at the wheel and second at the 1000km Brands Hatch with. The car was also raced at the Nurburgring 1000km, Spa 1000km, Monza 1000km, Zeltweg 1000km, 6hour Watkins Glen, the Sebring 12 hour race and it was entered for the 1972 Targa Florio with Munari/ Merzario.

0880 was subject to full refurbishment three years ago by Paul Lanzante and has been campaigned for two seasons. It comes complete with a fully comprehensive spares package and full FIA paperwork. This car is ready to compete in forthcoming events and would be a welcome entry in the Shell Historic Ferrari/Maserati challenge.
