Sold $702,000

There may be no more important American performance icon in the sixties than the thundering 427 Cobra. They were brutally fast, but thanks to an all new coil spring suspension co-developed with Ford Motor Company, this was one snake that wasn ’ t afraid of corners. It spanked the competition on the track, but it was on the streets of America that the fearsome Cobra was king.

With the new suspension and Ford ’ s fire-breathing cast iron 428 – which proved reliable at 500 bhp – Ken Miles ’ new toy, the 427 Cobra was born. They were tough street racers, but the hard life claimed many cars, and today it is very difficult to find a good original car - one like CSX 3271.

Delivered new on 10/10/66 to Hayward Motors in California, CSX 3271 has remained in California since. This car is well documented in the Shelby American Automobile Club Registry, in the hands of the vendor for more than 20 years. Originally a blue car with black interior, it has since been refinished in Raven black. Other than paint, it is a largely original car, retaining its original leather upholstery, original side curtains and convertible top. The car has been carefully maintained by a noted West Coast Cobra expert, and offers the winning bidder a rare and unique opportunity to purchase a “ no stories ” example of Carroll Shelby ’ s legendary 427 Cobra.
