Auto Union / DKW 1000 SP Coupe

The Auto Union 1000 Sp (Sp for Spezial and not, as is often assumed, for the word "sport") was a closed two-seat sports coupe or an open two-seat roadster.
The 1000 Sp was presented at the Internationale Automobilausstellung in 1957 and produced at Baur in Stuttgart from 1958 to 1965, a total of 5,004 closed sports coupés.
Compared to the Auto Union 1000 S, engine performance increased to 41 kW (55 hp) mainly due to higher compression (8:1) but also due to minor differences in the engine block and different carburettor system. This brought the "narrow gauge Thunderbird", as the 1000 Sp was occasionally called in the press, to a top speed that at 140 km/h slightly exceeded the less motorized 1000 S Coupé.
This example is an older restoration and is still in good condition. The front seats have fabric and seat covers with a vinyl finish. The interior is in good condition.
The engine starts smoothly at the push of the start button and produces the typical two-stroke sound. Driving this small coupé is quite an experience, and it gets a lot of admiring glances. The 1000 SP's style and rarity make it a highly regarded classic car for any event, be it a rally or a concours d'elegance. This is a real stylish collector's car.
The color combination is also very tasteful, the body is painted in Elfenbein. A very nice contrast with the black roof. The interior is in a very neat condition.
For safety reasons, the car is fitted with three-point seat belts. The roll-up mechanism is nicely concealed.
This 1000 SP Coupé, originally from Sweden, is technically very well maintained. However, the wheel edges of the rear fenders could have been prepared a little better.
The body is sleek, intact, virtually scratch-free. The doors, sills, fenders, hood and trunk lid have fittings.

De Auto Union 1000 Sp (Sp voor Spezial en niet, zoals vaak wordt aangenomen, voor het woord "sport") was een gesloten tweezits sportcoupé of een open tweezits roadster.
De 1000 Sp werd gepresenteerd op de Internationale Automobilausstellung in 1957 en geproduceerd bij Baur in Stuttgart van 1958 tot 1965, in totaal 5.004 gesloten sportcoupé's.
In vergelijking met de Auto Union 1000 S waren de motorprestaties voornamelijk door een hogere compressie (8:1) gestegen tot 41 kW (55 pk), maar ook vanwege kleine verschillen in het motorblok en het afwijkende carburateursysteem. Dat bracht de "smalspoor Thunderbird", zoals de 1000 Sp af en toe in de pers werd genoemd, op een topsnelheid die met 140 km/u de zwakker gemotoriseerde 1000 S Coupé enigszins overtrof.
Dit exemplaar is een oudere restauratie en is nog in goede staat. De voorstoelen hebben stofen stoelbekleding met een vinyl afwerking. Het interieur is in goede staat.
De motor start vlot met een druk op de startknop en geeft het typische tweetakt-geluid. Het rijden in deze kleine coupé is een hele ervaring, en hij krijgt veel bewonderende blikken. De stijl en zeldzaamheid van de 1000 SP maken het een zeer gewaardeerde klassieke auto voor elk evenement, of het nu een rally of een concours d'elegance is. Dit is een echte stijlvolle verzamelaarsauto.
Ook de kleurencombinatie is zeer smaakvol te noemen, de carrosserie is gespoten in het Elfenbein. Een zeer fraai contrast met het zwarte dak. Het interieur is in een zeer nette staat.
Uit veiligheidsoogpunt is de auto voorzien van driepuntsgordels. Het oprolmechaniek is fraai weggewerkt.
Deze oorspronkelijk uit Zweden afkomstige 1000 SP Coupé is, technisch zeer goed bijgehouden. Echter hadden de wielranden van de achterschermen iets beter geprepareerd kunnen worden.
De carrosserie is strak, gaaf, nagenoeg krasvrij. De portieren, dorpels, spatborden, motorkap en kofferdeksel hebben kloppende passingen.
