Known History

Pleased with the service given by the 300 SE Coupé he had bought new from Royal Elysées in 1963, the current owner's father, then an industrialist in the Hautes-Pyrénées, went in search of a larger car at the end of 1968. And so he came to buy this secondhand model, which had been delivered new by the Parisian dealer Royal Elysées and registered in Paris on 5 September 1967. As the registration certificate from the period confirms, the car was registered in the name of our Mercedes enthusiast on 8 November 1968. The 600 left the factory finished in metallic Anthracite Grey (ref. 172G), with a brown leather interior and a Becker radio (since replaced by a Philips unit). The car passed its last safety inspection in 2006 at 85,179km, before slipping into oblivion in its dusty garage. It was only in 2021 that it was disinterred in order to be sold. To this end, it was started up; as the fuel tank was clogged up, a temporary supply was rigged up in the boot. The hydraulic suspension is in working order, but the car will naturally need a full service. The body was repainted in the past in its original colour and is very sound. The upholstery remains entirely original and has been well preserved. In the glove box, we found the French owner's manual, the partly stamped-up service book and a letter from the Aga Khan's secretary thanking the director of Royal Elysées for his invitation to the Paris Motor Show! Stepping inside an original Mercedes 600 gives you the privileged feeling of immersing yourself in the history of the rich and powerful, and this example is no exception.
