Known History

The model we are presenting for sale is an HK 500 built in February 1959, with the production number 428. It was delivered new to its first owner in July 1959 by Auto Becker in Düsseldorf, Germany. Unusually, the car remained in the same ownership until 2012, before being sold to its second owner, who was also German and lived near Munich. Its current owner acquired the car in March 2019 through the German dealer Thiesen. It was presented at the time as having two owners and being in well preserved condition, which immediately appealed to our discerning collector. Equipped with a highly valued manual gearbox and attractive centre-lock wheels, according to the Amicale Facel Vega it is also believed to be one of the first models fitted with disc brakes all round. It should be noted that it still has its original engine and that an easily removable electric power steering kit has been installed, making the car much lighter and more pleasant to drive. It is finished in 'Tudor Grey' paintwork with very attractive original beige leather upholstery. The height of elegance, the passenger door has a compartment designed to store a small bottle of champagne and two glasses. The car has been well preserved, with various jobs undertaken on it over the past decade. The work carried out has included the complete restoration of the chromework, fresh paintwork, the overhaul of the carburettors and the replacement of the carpets. The file with the car contains substantial restoration bills, together with copies and originals of its old German registration documents, and its FIVA card. This incredible French GT is in fine condition and our road test enabled us to confirm that its engine runs satisfactorily. Rare, refined and technically advanced for its time, the HK 500 is an exceptional GT.
